Southern Arizona Track & Field Championships

The Southern Arizona Track & Field Championships were held Saturday on the campus of Mountain View Marana. The Cienega boys won the team trophy over Gila Ridge 112-63 and Tucson High outlasted Salpointe 101-97 on the girl’s side.

Cienega senior Rodney Rodgers won three gold medals including a personal best 21.93 in the 200-meter race. University of Arizona football commit Jamarye Joiner won two including a personal best 14.28 in the 110-meter hurdles.

On the girl’s side, Arizona track commit Neysia Howard earned four medals, Salpointe’s Ana Alvarez Tostado took home two as did Abigail Walls of Tucson and Mia Corners of Gila Ridge.

The state Track & Field Championships will start on Wednesday, May 2 and will be held on the campus of Mesa Community College.
