Tucson's Alyssa Carpio didn't pitch against Red Mountain when the teams locked up twice in the Lion Country Classic Invite back in February.

Carpio turned in a solid performance and the Badgers outhit, outpitched and out-defensed the host Mountain Lions in posting a 12-2 victory in the first round of the 6 state softball tournament.

Tucson cranked out 10 hits, added five base runners via hit by pitch and Red Mountain committed four errors, most hastened by th Badgers' strong bunt game.

A five-run, fourth inning took the wind of Red Mountain, turning a 2-1 edge to 7-1.
