Friday, Saturday radio game coverage lineup

August 17, 2018 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365

The 2018 football season is upon us.

Every Friday night and Saturday morning during the high school football season 1580 The Fanatic and azpreps365.com along with some of the state’s best high school sports reporters will set up, cover and break down the action. It all starts with the Friday Night Drive pregame show, which premiered last year with Mike Grose, who returns for another tour as the show’s host.

The kickoff time for the Drive is 6 p.m. Then at 7 p.m., 1580 The Fanatic’s Dan Manucci and Erik Andersson will broadcast azpreps365.com’s Game of the Week.

Friday’s Game of the Week, streamed live by azpreps365.com, will feature perennial power Centennial traveling to 5A Conference upstart Casteel. After the game, from about 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Grose and his new partner, Jason Skoda, will recap Friday’s action from throughout the state during the Friday Night Wrap Up Show on 1580 The Fanatic.

During the Wrap Up Show, Grose and Skoda will also interview the headliners from Friday’s games and get live game recaps from the state’s top high school reporting talent. Skoda is a veteran high school reporter in the state, known for his passion for wrestling and has worked for some big dailies, including the Dallas Morning News, the Orange Country Register and The Arizona Republic.

Skoda is still in the game, contributing stories to County Line Preps and Sports360AZ. He’s also an Ed Doherty Award voter.

The Ed Doherty Award is a postseason honor given to an Arizona high school football player. Our radio coverage ends Saturday with the azpreps365 Saturday Morning Show.

From 7-9 a.m., James Mello, Brett Quintyne and myself will discuss the big Arizona high school sports stories that developed Friday night and during the week. During the 2018 football season, the Saturday morning show will broadcast live from different high schools.

Our first stop is Queen Creek High.
