After a successful weekend In Chandler at the Wolves Swim Invite, the Pinnacle swim team is anticipating back-to-back weekends of success.

After placing 4th overall on the boys’ side and 11th on the girls’ side out of 38 teams last weekend, the Pioneers coaches are anxious to see consistent, if not better, times from all 30 swimmers this weekend at the Brophy Invitational.

“We had two school records broke this past Saturday,”  assistant swim coach Troy Layman said, "so I would expect to see some more this coming Saturday as well.”

After a standout weekend of record-breaking, personal bests, and achieving state provisional times, Pinnacle is aware of what improvements they need to make before heading to Brophy.

“Our flip turns were something we noticed across the board last Saturday, so we're working on that this week,” co-head swim coach Paige Layman said. “Sometimes it’s hard to do a back-to-back weekend at that level but it will be nice to see them be consistent and hold those same times.”

Coach Paige Layman hopes to see standout club swimmers Dylan Melin, Aaron Rosen, Reese Gould and Carter Koshar improve their personal times this weekend.

Melin “is our top freestyler and he told me he would like to break the 200-free pool record at Brophy," Paige Layman said. "I know that’s a goal of his and I think he can do it.”

Melin, along with several other Pinnacle swim team members, swim above the high school level at various club teams across the valley.

Along with standout club swimmers, Paige also is eager to see club diver Delainey Pisaruk compete this weekend.

“She is a very good club diver and she has a lot of potential to make state, which has not happened for our girls’ diving team in a really long time,” Paige Layman said.

As a whole, the team has several swimmers with the potential to be in the top 32 at state and 15 have already qualified for their state provisional times.

Senior captain Ryan Clancy hopes to see the team place high again this weekend. “I want the team to go faster," he said. "We were trash in flip turns, so if we could get some better flip turns and open turns that would be great.”
