The Centennial Coyotes are still undefeated after beating the Millennium Tigers, 35-9, in a non-conference game Friday night.

The Coyotes now improve to 5-0 while the Tigers picked up their second loss of the season, bringing their record to 3-2.

The Coyotes, now 5-0,  took advantage of an early opportunity after a Tigers turnover.   Junior quarterback Jonathan Morris completed a touchdown pass to wide receiver Dyelan Miller, making the score 6-0 with 9:51 left in the first quarter.

Centennial dominated the first half, building a 21-0 lead before Millennium (3-2) kicked a 35-yard field goal with 1:34 left in the second quarter, making the score 21-3.

Although Centennial did well on defense, with two interceptions and five sacks, they still had some errors they need to work on.

“We were supposed to go into this gap but went into the wrong gap and opened things up for them,” said defensive coordinator Andrew Taylor. “That’s very fixable, just a correction thing and a focus thing. Got to keep working on our conditioning, make sure we can go hard all the way to the end of the game.”

Coyotes quarterback Jonathan Morris threw two touchdown passes with one interception.

“I think we need to execute better," Morris said.  “We were messing up on a couple of mistakes. They [Millennium] did a good job of containing us, pretty good on their part.”

Centennial free safety Eric Cire Fields sacked Millennium quarterback Zareg Brown twice.

“It felt good, really good,” said Fields. “I started working on blitz more. I was coming off the edge, wanted to get some more sacks.”

Millennium running back Isaac Oliver ran for a 11-yard touchdown making the score 28-9 with 7:07 left in the fourth quarter. The Tigers attempted to go for the 2-point conversion but Brown’s pass was incomplete.

As soon as the Coyotes received the ball back, they quickly found themselves in the end zone once again. Morris threw another touchdown pass to Dyelan Miller to make the score 35-9 with 4:12 left in the fourth quarter.

Although Millennium lost by 29 points, offensive coordinator Ken Suesue saw a lot of improvement from his offensive line and the team.

“We faced adversity last week, which is good. We can learn from it, to make ourselves better,” Suesue said. “I give credit  to my guys and Centennial. They are a tough team, but we made a really great adjustment. We had less sacks on our quarterback. The O-line did well.”

Not only did they have less sacks in this game compared to last week, the Tigers also had two penalties this game as compared to 27 penalties last game.
