The odds of becoming a U.S. Olympian are imposing. Unless you are the Blutreich sisters.

Brooke and Logan, aspiring volleyball and track and field athletes at Desert Vista, are staring down the odds - 1 in 34,111 for volleyball, 1 in 9,079 for track, according to eCollegeFinder - with their genes.

Both parents were Olympians.

“I like it. It gives me a lot of confidence because, I know they know what they’re talking about with sports and training so that helps out a lot,” Brooke says.

Brian Blutreich competed in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games and Lynda Blutreich in the 2000 Sydney Summer Games. They were in track and field. At home “there are pictures of my dad’s Olympics and there are things from my mom’s Olympics,” Brooke says.

Brooke and Logan are now in track and field at Desert Vista as well as volleyball. Logan participates in shot put. Brooke does some running. “This year I’m going to try javelin which is what my mom did,” she says.

It is a semi new venture for her because she has always focused on volleyball.

Both girls would love to follow in their parents footsteps even though they don’t put pressure on them to do so. “They just want us to have fun and be competitive,'' says Brooke.

What kind of athletic parents are they? “When we were younger we told them, ‘Just stay there and cheer,’” Brooke says. “They don’t yell at us on the court.”

Brooke, a senior, and Logan, a freshman, have helped lead Desert Vista to a 6-4 record.

Life outside of school is hectic for both girls because they have such different schedules with the club sports but still find a way to be sisters.

Jennifer Soto loves playing with both sisters. She has a special connection with Brooke and admires the way she leads the volleyball team. Logan says there are pros and cons to having her older sister on the volleyball team. “Sometimes she yells at me,” Logan says.

Despite the common bickering that happens among sisters they are always there for one another.

Logan even makes Brooke laugh at times. "Like today during the game she randomly just fell without anyone around her,” Brooke laughs. “She just always falls!”

Their dream after high school: Play volleyball in college. And then? Stay tuned.
