Tuba City, St. Johns, Rock Point top seeds at Regional Tournament

Tuba City, St. Johns and Rock Point earned number one seeds in their respective regions, leading into the regional volleyball tournament.

Tuba City garnered the regular season 3A North Region title. St. Johns netted the regular season 2A North Region crown. Rock Point claimed the regular season 1A North Region play.

2A North Region

The 2A regional tournament begins today at various sites.

No. 1 St. Johns (13-4. 13-1) entertains No. 8 Valley Sanders (3-12, 3-11) at 6 p.m. No. 2 Round Valley (14-4, 12-2) hosts No. 7 Many Farms (3-15, 3-11) at 6 p.m.

Pinon (12-6, 10-4), No. 3 seed, and No. 6 Alchesay (4-13, 4-10), meet at 5 p.m. in Pinon. No. 4 Greyhills Academy (6-10, 6-8) tangles with No. 5 Hopi (5-12, 5-9) in Tuba City at 5 p.m.

Action moves to Greyhills Academy gymnasium in Tuba City this Saturday, where survivors of the first round games meet in the semifinals. The Regional Tournament championship contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.

As of today, St. Johns is No. 17, Round Valley is No. 18 and Pinon is No. 23 in the 2A statewide power rankings.

At conclusion of the regional tournament, teams will be determined who will play in the 2A Conference Play-In Tournament on October 30 at the high seed.

The survivors of the Play-In Tournament advance into the State Tournament bracket, when play begins on November 2.

3A North Region

Six teams will compete in the 3A North Region Tournament this Saturday in Kayenta, hosted by Monument Valley in Nash Center.

Regular season region champion, Tuba City (16-0, 10-0), is No. 1 and Kayenta Monument Valley (10-6, 7-3) is No. 2. Tuba City and Kayenta Monument Valley earned seeds in the first round.

No. 4 Chinle (10-7, 3-7) and No. 5 Ganado (9-9, 3-7) meet at 9:30 a.m. The Chinle / Ganado winner meets Tuba City at 1 p.m.

No. 3 Page (9-6, 5-5) tangles with No. 6 Window Rock (7-10, 2-8) at 11:15 a.m. The Page / Window Rock survivor plays Kayenta Monument Valley at 2:45 p.m.

The Regional Tournament championship game is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.

As of today, Tuba City is No. 2, Kayenta Monument Valley is No. 9, Page is No. 12, Chinle is No. 17, Ganado is No. 18 and Window Rock is No. 20 in the 3A statewide power rankings.

At conclusion of the regional tournament, teams will be determined who will play in the 3A Conference Play-In Tournament on October 30 at the high seed.

The winners of the Play-In Tournsment advance into the State Tournament bracket, when action begins on November 2.

1A North Region

The 1A North Regional Tournament will be played on a neutral floor at Window Rock High School Field House in Fort Defiance this Saturday.

No. 1 Rock Point (15-2, 12-0) and No. 2 Red Mesa (10-7, 9-3) earned first round byes.

No. 4 Red Valley-Cove (8-8, 6-6) meets No. 5 Shonto Prep (6-9, 5-7) at 12 p.m. The winner meets Rock Point at 2 p.m.

No. 3 St. Michael (10-7, 8-4) faces No. 6 El Capitan (4-14, 2-10) at 10 a.m. The survivor takes on Red Mesa at 4 p.m.

The Regional Tournament championship game is set for 6 p.m.

As of today, Rock Point is No. 6, Red Mesa is No. 12, St. Michael is No. 16, Red Valley-Cove is No. 24, Shonto Prep is No. 29 and El Capitan is No. 34 in the 1A statewide power rankings.

At conclusion of the regional tournament, teams will be determined who will play in the 1A State Tournament, beginning on November 2.
