The Brandon Bean Invitational is held every year to honor a former Salpointe player who passed away in 1992 after an on-field collision at a soccer scrimmage. In addition, the tournament also honors former Salpointe girl’s player Laura Kea who died in an auto accident on her way to a soccer tournament.

The battle to stay alive in pool play comes down to one more day at the Brandon Bean. Only the top eight teams from the boys and girls will move to bracket play on Sunday and several teams are guaranteed a playoff spot:

On the girl’s side, Salpointe (3-0), Cienega (2-0) and Sunnyside (2-0) appear to be locked in with Tucson (3-0), Rincon/UHS (3-0), Sunnyside (2-0) and Cienega (2-0) controlling the boy’s pool.
