It took 16 games, including an epic triple overtime thriller, but the semifinals of the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout have been set for Friday afternoon.

Pueblo survived a 53-50 win over Empire and then followed that up with a 42-38 nail-biter over Sunnyside to advance to the semifinal round where the Warriors will face Marshfield (Coos Bay, Oregon). Summer Fox scored 24 points against Empire and 25 against Sunnyside to lead Pueblo.

The Pirates won the 4A state championship in Oregon last year and the team beat Palo Verde 53-36 in the first round and then outlasted Rincon/University 45-43 in the quarterfinals.

The Rangers beat Nogales 69-67 in triple overtime in first-round action to set up the game with Marshfield. Loraya Rocha scored 32 points to lead Rincon/UHS in the triple overtime game.

Alyssa Brown scored 28 points against Amphitheater and 27 against Thatcher to lead Sahuaro the other semifinals where the Cougars will face Flowing Wells. Milinda Arguellez scored 24 points to help the Caballeros get past Kofa, 49-47, in the first round. Flowing Wells went on to defeat Marana 39-35 in the quarterfinal round.

The championship game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

In boy’s action, Amphitheater, Walden Grove, Palo Verde and Sabino went 2-0 at the Holiday Classic hosted by Sabino. Round-robin Play continues on Friday starting at 9 a.m.

The San Manuel boys are 2-0 at the Tombstone Boys Basketball Tournament.

In Soccer action, a full day of pool play is on the schedule at the Oro Valley High School Soccer Invitational taking place at Naranja Park. On the girl’s side, Perry is 2-0-1 and Campo Verde is 2-0. In boy’s action, Campo Verde is 2-1.
