Girls, boys hoops: 3A North Regional Tournament site changed

The site for the girls and boys 3A North Regional Basketball Tournament has been changed, due to the recent closure of the Wildcat Den in Chinle.

The Regional Tournament is scheduled for February 7, 8 and 9 at three different venues.

The Wildcat Den was scheduled to host the Regional Tournament. The basketball court in the Wildcat Den suffered severe water damage, when water pipes broke, due to a frozen water line during Christmas holiday break. Water poured onto the basketball court. The basketball court will be replaced. Chinle has been playing its home games at the Chinle High School gymnasium.

The Regional Tournament will be staged at the conclusion of the regular basketball season. The regular basketball season concludes on February 2.

Kayenta Monument Valley High School will be the site on February 7 for first round play. Four games are scheduled, including two girls and two boys games. Games will be played at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The winners of first round games advance to the semifinals on February 8 at Ganado High School at Burnside Junction, Arizona. Four games will be played, including two girls and two boys contests. Games will tipoff at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The Regional Tournament shifts to Window Rock High School Events Center in Fort Defiance for the girls and boys third place and championship games on February 9. Four games will be played. The girl's third place game is set for 10 a.m. The boy's third place contest follows at 12 p.m. The Events Center will be cleared and closed in preparation for the championship games. The girl's championship game tips off at 5 p.m. The boy's championship game is set for 7:30 p.m.

The top 24 girls and 24 boys teams finishing in the 3A Statewide Power Rankings are invited to compete in the State Tournament. The first round of the girl's State Tournament is set for February 12 at site of the higher seed. The boy's State Tournament is scheduled to begin on February 13 at site of the higher seed.

The girl's second round will be played on February 15 and the boys second round is February 16. The girl's quarterfinals will be held on February 18 and the boys is on February 19. The girls and boys State Tournament semifinals will be played on February 22.

The girls and boys State Championship games is scheduled for February 23 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
