3A North Girls, Boys Regional Tournament: Championship games set for Saturday

Before a capacity crowd in Ganado High School Hornet Pavilion at Burnside Junction, Arizona, Page and Chinle girls and boys emerged as winners in the semifinals of the 3A North Regional Basketball Tournament.

For the second straight night, fans filled the venues to seating capacity at Monument Valley High School Nash Center and the Hornet Pavilion.

Another capacity crowd is expected at the Regional Tournament Championship at Window Rock High School's 6,500 seat Events Center in Fort Defiance, Arizona. The field is set for the Regional Tournament Championship. In the girl's championship game at 5:30 p.m., Page meets Chinle. The boy's championship contest at 7:30 p.m., has Page facing Chinle.

The girl's third place game between Tuba City Lady Warriors and Ganado Lady Hornets is scheduled for 10 a.m, The boy's third place contest features Window Rock Fighting Scouts takes on Monument Valley Mustangs at 11:30 a.m.

Both third place games are scheduled to be played in the Events Center.

State Tournament pairings will be announced at 4:30 p.m., during the Arizona Interscholastic Association Bracket Show. First round of the girl's state tournament is scheduled for Tuesday and boy's state tournament tips off on Wednesday at the high seed. The top 24 ranked teams is invited to compete in the state tournament.

Girl's Semifinals

Chinle 53, Tuba City 39

Led by post Stacey Begay and point guard Grayce Claw, the Chinle Lady Wildcats pulled off a 53-39 victory over the Tuba City Lady Warriors in one of the two girl's Regional Tournament semifinals.

Begay was dominate inside the paint, while Claw directed the offense, shooting well from the perimeter and the three-point arc. Begay netted 15 points and Claw added 12 points for Chinle.

Gracee Curley tallied seven points for Tuba City.

Girls Semifinals

Page 46, Ganado 28

Page, 3A North Regional Tournament's top seed, were led by Camryn Nockideneh with 13 points to lead the Lady Sand Devils to a convincing 46-28 over the Ganado Lady Hornets in a semifinal contest.

Jayla McIntosh and Michelene Coleman both canned 11 points for Ganado.

Boys Semifinals

Page 61, Window Rock 34

Page advanced to the Regional Tournament Championship contest, after the Sand Devils posted a 61-34 win over the Window Rock Fighting Scouts in a boy's Regional Tournament semifinal game.

Page's Dainian Sloan rattled the cages for 24 points. Gabe Gomez added 13 points and Justin Salabiye tallied 12 points for the Sand Devils.

Adrian Destea and Burk Williams both netted eight points for Window Rock.

Boys Semifinals

Chinle 65, Monument Valley 51

Chinle proved it is deserving of the 3A North Region's top seed, as the Wildcats chalked up an impressive 65-51 victory over the Monument Valley Mustangs in a semifinal contest.

Cooper Burbank poured in 16 points to pace Chinle. Curtis Begay added 12 points and Jason John tallied 11 points for the Wildcats.

Dahntay Dugi pumped in 12 points for Monument Valley.
