Two years after we called Devon Allen "Superman" for his breakout national prep performance at the Arcadia Invitational, the Oregon freshman stunned the national track and field community on Sunday.

Allen won the 110-meter hurdles in the 2014 USATA Outdoor Championships at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University.

Allen, also a wide receiver on the Oregon football team, won in 13.16 seconds, edging defending champion Ryan Wilson. Earlier this month, Allen pulled off a stunning upset at the NCAA outdoor championships. He's the first college athlete to win both the NCAA and national title in the same year since 1979, when Olympian and NFL receiver Renaldo Nehemiah pulled off the double.

When we first discovered Allen, he won three events at Arcadia — known as one of the top national track and field meets. He won the 110 and 300 hurdles in state record times of 13.52 and 36.39 seconds, and then fought back from behind to win the 200 in 21.10.

At that point, the Brophy College Prep (Phoenix) standout was a known football commodity with 20 football offers. He told us after the Arcadia Invitational: "I'm a football player who runs track, but I'd really like to do both in college."

The young lad had star power as a 16-year-old. Spoke and carried himself confidently. He seemed to love the big stage, as he once again proved Sunday.

Allen redshirted in football at Oregon for the 2013-14 season. He accounted for 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior at Brophy Prep and caught 44 passes for 844 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior.
