Senior Dren Meginnis was a second-team all-conference selection and named the offensive player of the year for 5A in 2018.

Fellow senior pitcher Sydnie Sahhar earned a first-team all-conference honor last season, but the talent doesn’t end there for Centennial softball.

Add senior pitcher Mariah Lopez and freshman Adyson Maya.

Lopez was a first-team all-conference selection in 2018 and 2017 while Maya will see playing time in the circle and as a utility player in her first year of high school.

Even though the team hasn’t played its first game yet, Maya didn’t hesitate when asked what she’s looking forward to this season: playoffs.

"It’s fun being under pressure and pushing through under pressure," Maya said. "That’s like the greatest feeling, especially with people that you love."

A feeling of closeness and support resonates through the entire pitching rotation. Junior pitcher Marley Burd said she felt the same way.

“I think this year we’re a lot more focused and we have a goal and we’re all in this together,” Burd said. “We’re using each other more and working more as a team rather than individually.”

Sophomore pitcher Meghan Golden further emphasized this year’s team feels more like a family.

“I feel like we were all together from last year and that is coming over to this year,” Golden said. “We’ve always been all together, and we’ve bonded through school and everything, so this year is going to be a good one.”

The Coyotes will face the Millennium Tigers at home Tuesday in their delayed opener.

With the opening tournament of the season cancelled due to inclement weather, the Coyotes are itching to get back on the field.

“It makes us more anxious to play, in a good way,” Meginnis said. “We’ve been ready to play, it just makes us more excited to wait even longer.”
