Baseball: Alchesay sweeps Window Rock, Falcons remain undefeated

The Alchesay Falcons swept a baseball doubleheader from the Window Rock Fighting Scouts in a pair of freedom games in Fort Defiance.

Alchesay outlasted Window Rock, 12-8, in the opener and the Falcons followed with an 11-10 win over the Fighting Scouts in the nightcap.

With the pair of victories, Alchesay remains undefeated at 5-0. Window Rock dropped to a dismal 1-5 record.

Alchesay lead-off batter, Tyreck Cosay walked to begin the first game. Allyn Cosay followed with a double into the leftfield power alley. Dante Shipp hit a sharp grounder pass Window Rock's third baseman, scoring Tyreck Cosay. Allyn Cosay scored Alchesay's second run, when Tim Cosay hit a sacrificed fly to centerfield.

Window Rock stormed back in the bottom half of the first inning. Fighting Scouts' Harry Bowman reached firsr base on a single into centerfield. Rainer Morgan followed with a single into centerfield. Kameron Jishie recorded a two-run single, tying the game at 2-2.

With one out, Window Rock's Miguel Fulton and Jay Roger Lizer reached first base on back-to-back base walks. Fulton and Lizer scored on Bowman's two-run double. Bowman was thrown out at third base, attempting to stretch a double into a triple.

The Falcons added a run in the third inning. With two outs, Alchesay's Elliott Joplin reached first base on a shortstop fielding error. Joplin crossed the plate, sprinting from second base on a catcher's pass ball.

Window Rock increased its lead to 6-3 in the fourth inning. Aaron Morgan began the bottom of the fourth inning, reaching first base on an error. Fulton followed with an infield hit. Window Rock scored on a pair of unearned runs.

After reaching first base with a base-on-balls, Joplin scored when a fly ball was misjudged. Window Rock led, 6-5, at the end of the fifth inning.

The Falcons rallied in its final at-bat in the top half of the seventh inning. Alchesay sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs on three hits. Window Rock managed to score two runs on three hits during the seventh inning.

Window Rock entertains Snowflake Lobos, 5-1, in a single game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Alchesay participates in the Bisbee Tournament, Thursday through Saturday. The Falcons have a pair of games on Thursday, facing Valley Union at 2 p.m. and taking on Tombstone at 4 p.m. Alchesay continues tournament action on Friday, meeting Benson at 12 p.m.
