The Millennium Tigers are preparing to make a run in the playoffs. A large reason for this current positioning is David Enriquez.

Enriquez is in his fourth year as a varsity player for the Tigers. Over the years, he has grown into one of Millennium’s premier players both on the mound and at the plate. Enriquez credits his mindset as his biggest strength.

“I like to win,” said Enriquez. “That’s all I like to do is win. I’ll do anything to win …When I step in the box, I’m the best player to step in the box.”

Millennium coach Jerod Burleson agrees.

“It seems to me that David will do just about anything not to lose,” said Burleson. “In games that we play where not everything is clicking, that competitive nature …will help get you over the edge.”

Enriquez has developed a deadly curveball that has been a major catalyst for his success on the mound. It’s even more impressive considering that he hasn’t been pitching during his entire tenure at Millennium.

After his freshman year, he spoke to coaches about potentially pitching. Since stepping on the mound at the high school level, he’s grown into arguably the team’s best arm.

With that success, Enriquez has found himself becoming a leader for the club.

“I see myself as a leader on this team,” said Enriquez. “I’m looking to lead this team to a state championship.”

Burleson also views Enriquez as a leader of the club.

“He leads on the field by example,” said Burleson. “He plays hard. It doesn’t matter if we’re playing a No. 40 team in the state or a number one team in the state. He always wants the ball, he always wants to win, and he’s gonna do whatever it takes to win.”

In his time at Millennium, Enriquez has formed many bonds with teammates. However, none may be bigger than his bond with Justin Bramman. They’ve been close since beginning to bond in practices during their sophomore year. Since then, they’ve grown together as players and as friends.

“We just always got each other’s back,” said Bramman. “He’s always gonna check in on you, no matter what. He’ll be there for you.”

With his play on the field, Enriquez has caught the attention of multiple Division I schools at the next level. He is currently undecided on what school he will attend, but Burleson feels that Enriquez has what it takes to succeed at that level.

“I have full confidence that David can play at a Division I level,” said Burleson. “Athletically, he’s one of the best players that I’ve been fortunate enough to coach.”
