XC: 42 teams set for Doug Conley Invite Saturday Sept. 21

Highland High is entered to defend its boys and girls titles in the elite division on Saturday at the 47th Doug Conley XC Invitational at Shalimar Country Club in Tempe.

Forty-two schools are entered in the Sept. 21 meet with six races scheduled. There are three divisions of races - boys and girls non-varsity, boys and girls invitational and boys and girls elite.

The non-varsity races are first with girls start time 7:15 a.m. and boys at 7:45 a.m. Invitational girls is at 8:15 followed by the invitational boys at 8:45. The elite races wrap things up with the girls race at 9:15 and boys at 9:45.

Reigning girls elite division champ - Highland's Caroline McLeskey - will be on hand to defend her title. The Hawks' defending boys elite champ, Leo Daschbach, won't be competing as he is taking a college visit to Colorado.

Schools competing in the elite race: Girls - Highland, Mesa Mountain View, Red Mountain, Chaparral, Mountain Pointe, Prescott, Desert Mountain, Corona del Sol, Rincon/University, Vista Grande and Shadow Ridge. Boys - Boulder Creek, Gilbert, Highland, Mesa Mountain View, Red Mountain, Mountain Pointe, Northwest Christian, Prescott, Desert Mountain, Saguaro, Corona del Sol, Rincon/University, Valley Vista, Veritas Prep and Shadow Ridge.
