The Round Valley Elks and Alchesay Falcons cashed in wins on the gridiron.

ROUND VALLEY 21, ST. JOHNS 7

Round Valley and St. Johns renewed its rivalry.

The Elks took advantage of St. Johns' penalties, poor field position and special teams en route to its victory on the road in St. Johns, 21-7.

"We had too many penalties and poor field position killed St. Johns' offense," said St. Johns head coach Mike Morgan. "The Redskin offense started five different offensive drives inside their own 10 yard line."

St. Johns scored the game's first touchdown. St. Johns senior quarterback Ramon Sanchez threw a 21 yard touchdown pass to Graham Nielson. Gage Trickey completed the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

Down 7-0, Round Valley battled back in the second quarter.

Elks' running back Mark Iragoyn scampered 45 yards for a touchdown. Sergio Camunez tacked on the PAT, tying the contest at 7-7. Round Valley's Tayvin Bevell entered pay dirt from 4 yards. Camunez scored the PAT for a 14-7 Elk lead in the second quarter.

Round Valley added an insurance touchdown in the third quarter. Bevell connected with Kaleb Newby for a 6 yard scoring strike. Camnunez booted the pigskin between the uprights for a 21-7 advantage.

"The St. Johns defense played well against the run, but had three big Round Valley pass plays set up two touchdowns for the Elks," Morgan said. "We need to clean up the penalties and improve our special teams if we are going to win games. Our blocking has to improve to move the ball offensively."

St. Johns, 4-2, travel to Pima to face the Roughriders this Thursday at 7 p.m.

"I am happy with the victory," said Alchesay head coach Brandon Newcomb. "Davin Parker led the team with 294 rushing yards. His success is directly related to our offensive linemen, including Rico Riley, London Larzelere, Kendrick Clitso, Noah Walker, Ernest Walker, Reggie Armstrong, along with fullback Preston Ortega. Defensively, we were led by J.T. Kessay, Ryan Quintero, Isaac Lupe, Eli Thompson and Hunter Kasey."

Alchesay entertains the Rock Point Cougars this Friday at 7 p.m.

Newcomb said Rock Point has been playing good football, withj a competitive game against Hopi and a big win versus Greyhills Academy.

"They have a playmaker at quarterback in the Descheny kid," Newomb said. "This will be a good test for us. Rock Point has veen a similar program to Red Mesa, with their proximity to each other. They have similar type of kids and the Olomua influence in that style of play."
