Cross Country: Ganado, Page capture Bud Davis Invitational

The Ganado Lady Hornets and Page Sand Devils won girls and boys team championships, respectively, at the Bud Davis Cross Country Invitational in Tuba City.

Ganado nailed down the girl's team title, posting 36 points. The Lady Hornets placed four of its runners in the top eight places and its fifth runner finished 14th.

Page netted 36 points, en route to earning the boy's team championship. The Sand Devils had four runners in the top nine and its fifth scoring runner was 16th place.

Ganado's top female runner was third place finisher, freshman Marissa Shorty, who was clocked in 23:04. Lady Hornet freshman LaShundrai Baldwin copped fifth place with a 23:26 time. Ganado sophomore Whitney James crossed the finish line in sixth place with a 23:30 showing. Lady Hornet senior Jayla McIntosh posted a 23:41 for eighth place. Ganado's fifth scoring runner was senior Shaunda Yazzie, who claimed 14th place with a 24:55 time.

Chinle freshman Temrya Bia was the overall female champion. Bia was clocked in 21:43. Lady Wildcats sophomore Mariah Bahe posted a 23:48 for 10th place.

Tuba City's Shaelyn Honahni, a junior, finished second place, turning in a 22:43. Her Tuba City teammate, sophomore Shenelle Zeena was timed in 23:42 for ninth place.

Page freshman LaShawnda Yazzie completed the race in fourth place, with a 23:13 time. Lady Sand Devils sophomore Miquedah Taliman crossed the finish line in seventh place with a 23:35 clocking.

Tuba City finished with 47 points for second place in the girl's team standings. Chinle was third with 77 points, followed by Page 83 points, Hopi 123 points and Greyhills Academy 174 points.

Junior Trent Holiday was Page's male top finisher. Holiday claimed third place, posting an 18:16. Sand Devils senior Skyler Sandoval followed in fourth place with an 18:20 showing. Page sophomore Colton Yazzie copped seventh place, turning in a 19:07. Sand Devils' freshman Orlandon Yazzie completed the race in ninth place, clocking a 19:15. Page's fifth scoring runner was freshman Gavyn Begay with a 19:41 time.

Hopi freshman Wayland Namingha was the boy's indivdual champion. Namingha was clocked in 18-minutes. His Hopi teammate junior Tyrall Roland finished sixth place, posting an 18:46 and sophomore Milson Tessay rounded out the top 10 with a 19:23 time.

Ganado freshman Micah Slivers claimed runner-up with an 18:01 clocking.

Tuba City senior Demetrius Daw posted an 18:42 for fifth place.

Red Mesa sophomore Anton Woody was clocked in 19:13 for eighth place.

Hopi finished runner-up in the boy's team standings with 43 points. Chinle garnered third place with 85 points, followed by Tuba City 93 points, Ganado 96 points and Greyhills Academy 167 points.
