Ray senior Shelby Yocum is on target to be the next high school basketball player to break into the “2000-Point Club” for the state of Arizona. Yocum scored 628 points as a freshman, 653 as a sophomore and 649 as a junior for a total of 1930 career points.

The 5-8 senior is averaging just under 22 points a game and the Bearcats are playing in the Small-School Boyd Baker Tournament scheduled for Amphitheater High School.

11 of the 30 players to break 2,000 career points have come in the last five years and 16 reached that mark since 2010. Former Santa Rita standout Paula Pyers (1980-1984) was the first to break 2,000 points. On the boy’s side, former Globe standout Robert Burries set a new standard of 3,387 career points last winter.
