3A Boys Basketball: Window Rock wins two games at Sedona Invitational

The Window Rock Scouts chalked up two wins in Pool Play during Friday's action during the Sedona Scorpion Basketball Invitational.

The Scouts finished 2-1 in Pool Play during the tournament. Window Rock advances into the tournament bracket play, facing Chandler Prep on Saturday at 12 p.m.

With two wins on Friday, the Scouts improve to 4-2 overall.

The Window Rock defeated the Mingus Union Marauders, 56-37, on Friday morning. The Scouts continued Pool Play, edging the Snowflake Lobos, 52-51, in Pool Play on Friday night. Window Rock lost to Northwest Christian, 54-52, after leading for three quarters on Thursday night Pool Play.

POOL PLAY

WINDOW ROCK 56, MINGUS UNION 37

Window Rock won its first of two Pool Play games on Friday, outlasting Mingus Union, 56-37.

Mingus Union raced out to an 11-4 first quarter advantage. Window Rock outscored Mingus Union, 14-7, tying the contest, 18-18, at halftime.

The Scouts shot well in the third quarter, canning 25 points. Mingus Union managed 11 points during the third stanza. Window Rock held a 43-29 lead at the end of the third period. The Scouts rattled the cages for 13 points, while the Marauders netted eight points during the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Cauy Silversmith poured in 17 points and sophomore guard Trajon Bizardi contributed 16 points to pace Window Rock.

POOL PLAY

WINDOW ROCK 52, SNOWFLAKE 51

In an exciting matchup, Window Rock nipped Snowflake, 52-51.

Snowflake held a four-point advantage, 14-10, at the end of the first period. The Lobos outscored the Scouts, 10-8, for a 24-18 halftime lead.

Window Rock tallied 22 points, while Snowflake managed 13 points in the third quarter. The Scouts forged to a 40-37 advantage at the end of the third frame. Snowflake outscored Window Rock, 14-12, during the fourth quarter.

Senior Adrian Destea knocked down 12 points and Cauy Silversmith chipped in 11 points for Window Rock.

Window Rock head coach Tom Bizardi praised the Scouts for its defense.

"In both games today, our defense kept us in range with our offense having a slow start," Bizardi said. "We made adjustments at halftime for our offense to be executed. I'm glad our players were disciplined enough to carry out the game plan."
