NACKARD HOLIDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

AT FLAGSTAFF HIGH SCHOOL

WINSLOW 61, GREEN VALLEY (HENDERSON, NEVADA) 44

Winslow improved to 4-1, after the Lady Bulldogs defeated Green Valley, of Henderson, Nevada, 61-44, in Pool Play of the Nackard Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament at Flagstaff High School on Friday night.

Winslow finished undefeated 3-0 in Pool Play of the tournament. Winslow faces Tuba City Lady Warriors at 11 a.m. Saturday in opening round of tournament bracket play.

Winslow led 16-13 in the first quarter against Green Valley. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Green Valley, 16-6, to take a 32-19 halftime lead.

The Lady Bulldogs canned 16 points to Green Valley's 14 points for a 45-33 lead at the end of the third quarter. Winslow outpointed Green Valley, 16-11, during the fourth stanza.

Kylie Begay tallied 15 points to lead Winslow offensively. Kristin Wagner added 12 points, followed by Brianna Little and Sierra Singer with 10 points apiece.

"This was a good team win against an athletic team," said Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan.

SEDONA RED ROCK GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNEY

WINDOW ROCK 47, SEDONA 38

Window Rock overcame a sluggish first half start to chalk up 47-38 victory over host Sedona in Pool Play of the Sedona Red Rock Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday night.

"We had a slow start and finally began to execute well in the second half," Window Rock head coach Sharon Toadecheenie said about the Lady Scouts' performance.

Sedona took a 13-7 first quarter lead. Window Rock battled back in the second quarter, outscoring Sedona, 12-6. The game was knotted at 19-19 at halftime.

The game was tied at 31-31, as both teams both scored 12 points apiece. The Lady Scouts tallied 16 points in the fourth quarter. Sedona scored seven points.

Jana Solee rattled the cages for 14 points. Rachael Smiley added nine points for the Lady Scouts.

WINDOW 81, CICERO PREP ACADEMY 16

Window Rock held a 20-0 first quarter advantage and never looked back.

The Lady Scouts extended its lead to 43-3 at halftime, after outscoring Cicero Prep Acaemy, 23-3.

Window Rock held a 65-7 lead at the end of the third stanza. The Lady Scouts canned 16 points to Cicero Prep Academy's nine points in the fourth period.

Shinezbi Teller and Alyisha Hale both scored 12 points for Window Rock.

"Everybody played with every player scoring," Toadecheenie said. "We played good defense. We're still improving free throw shooting.

WINDOW ROCK 42, SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 19

Window Rock improved its overall season record to 7-1, after the Lady Scouts won its third game of the Sedona Red Rock Girls Basketball Tourney on Friday.

Window Rock led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Scouts extended its lead to 27-7 at halftime.

Window Rock scored 10 points to Scottsdale Christian's nine points in the third period for a 37-16 advantage. The Lady Scouts outscored Scottsdale Christian, 5-3, during the fourth quarter.

Bayle Talkalai netted 12 points, followed by Jana Solee with 11 points and Rachael Smiley with 10 points.

"We played aggressively defensively and executed offensively," Toadecheenie said.

Window Rock faces Valley Christian at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
