It wasn't the pace Shadow Mountain's girls basketball team was used to playing. Still the Matadors found a way to prevail even if it took until the final seconds.

Senior guard Senya Rabouin sank the first two of three free throws with 1.7 seconds left to lift Shadow Mountain to a 28-27 triumph over patient and disciplined Upper Dublin (PA) in the quarterfinals of the Nike TOC at Corona del Sol High School.

Shadow Mountain (12-1) moves on to Friday's semifinals of the Mike Desper Bracket where it will face Cathedral Catholic (CA) at noon at Corona del Sol. Rabouin finished with 10 points -- all of them in critical junctures of the game.

"We had to grind this one out," Shadow Mountain coach Erica Matthews said. "It came down to one stop and one finish. They are one of the most disciplined teams we've faced. We told our girls it would be decided play by play."

Upper Dublin post Jackie Vargas, who keyed the third-quarter surge, hit a three to begin the fourth quarter. The Cardinals' lead was 27-22 with 2:45 left, but Shadow Mountain squeezed out two free throws and a bucket off a turnover to pull within 27-26 with 1:45 to play.

With few fouls called to this point on either team, Upper Dublin ran the clock down to 43 seconds before the first of five Shadow Mountain fouls were used to put Upper Dublin in the bonus. That brought the clock to 10.2 seconds with Vargas at the line for a 1-and-1. Vargas missed the front end and Shadow Mountain gained possession.

Upper Dublin had fouls to give and used three without Shadow Mountain getting a shot off. The final foul came at the 1.7 mark. The Cardinals grabbed Rabouin on the last one, who attempted the shot from 30 feet and drew the three-shot foul. Two made tosses and it was ball game - Shadow Mountain.

Shadow Mountain suffered an injury they'll hold their breath on early in the fourth period when senior forward Dyamond Butler-Worthy went down with what appeared to be right knee injury. She was carried off the floor.

The game was a unique one to watch with Upper Dublin forcing the tempo much of the game. The game see-sawed quarter to quarter with a Upper Dublin leading 3-2 after one quarter as both teams were ice cold shooting - Upper Dublin was 1 of 7 from the field and Shadow Mountain 1 of 11.

Sparked by a burst of offense by Rabouin in the  second quarter, Shadow took command 17-7 by intermission. Rabouin, who has extended range from beyond the arc, made two long ones in the quarter.

Upper Dublin turned the tables in the third perioe outscoring Shadow 13-2 to lead 20-19 heading to the final quarter.

DESERT VISTA 55, WESTWOOD 44: The Thunder avenged a loss ito the Warriors in an invitational in late November with a strong first quarter paving the way in the Derrill Kipp Bracket at Tempe High.
