Girls, boys hoops: Winslow girls, Chinle boys are victorious

GIRLS

WINSLOW 45, SHOW LOW 20

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs posted a 45-20 victory over the Show Low Lady Cougars in a 3A East Region girl's basketball game on Tuesday night.

Winslow took an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs extended its lead to 19-3 at the end of the first half, after outscoring the Lady Cougars, 11-3, in the second quarter.

Winslow continued to shoot well in the third period, outscoring Show Low, 11-8, for a 30-11. The Lady Bulldogs netted 15 points to the Lady Cougars' nine points in the fourth quarter.

Kylie Begay led Winslow, tallying 13 points. Briana Little added 11 points and Andrea Willeto scored 10 points.

"This was a good first game region for my team," said Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan. "My team's defense was very good tonight."

BOYS

CHINLE 79, WINGATE, NEW MEXICO 35

Chinle senior Cooper Burbank turned in a stellar performance, knocking down a game high 27 points to help lead the Wildcats to a 79-35 win over the Wingate, New Mexico Bears in an interstate boy's basketball game at the Wildcat Den in Chinle on Tuesday night.

Chinle raced out to a 22-8 first period lead. The Wildcats outscored Wingate, 20-9 for a 42-17 halftime lead.

The Wildcats canned 24 points, while Wingate netted nine points in the third period. Chinle held a 66-26 lead when the third quarter expired. Chinle poured in 13 points and Wingate netted nine points.

Brayden Ahasteen added 12 points for Chinle.

Darrel Begay led Wingate with nine points.

"A good game, where we were able to play everyone," said Chinle head coach Raul Mendoza. "We had everyone score, with the exception of four individuals on the roster.
