3A girls, boys hoops: teams scramble for positions

3A GIRLS HOOPS

The Window Rock Lady Scouts split its 3A North Region games this past weekend.

Window Rock outlasted the Kayenta Monument Valley Lady Mustangs, 55-44, in the Events Center in Fort Defiance this past Friday.

"We started the game at a slow pace," Window Rock head coach Sharon Toadecheenie said. "We hit key shots. Everybody contributed in the win."

Lady Scouts senior Jana Solee lead all scorers with 24 points. Keyana Goodman tallied 10 points and Robey Talkalai added eight points for Window Rock.

Sheridan Curley topped Kayenta Monument Valley with 15 points.

The Tuba City Lady Warriors posted a 62-42 victory over Window Rock in a 3A North Region this past Saturday in the Warrior Pavilion in Tuba City.

The Page Lady Sand Devils defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets, 49-31, in a 3A North Region game this past Saturday.

Page, (20-5), completed the 3A North Region with a 7-3 record. Ganado, (23-4), Tuba City, (17-8), and Chinle Lady Wildcats, (14-8), all finished with identical 6-4 region marks.

Window Rock, (16-8), finished its region mark at 5-5. Kayenta Monument Valley, (6-19), completed its region record at 0-10.

The 3A North Regional Tournament is scheduled for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Wildcat Den in Chinle. The official 3A North Regional Tournament bracket will be released this Tuesday.

In 3A East Region regular season play, the Winslow Lady Bulldogs stopped the Blue Ridge Lady Jackets, 48-37, this past Friday.

Kylie Begay tallied 16 points and Andrea Willeto added 10 points in a winning effort for Winslow.

"My team had a nice team win for Senior Night," Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan said.

Winslow has two regular season region games remaining on its schedule. Winslow will be at Payson on Tuesday for a region contest. The Lady Bulldogs complete its regular season on  this Friday at Snowflake for a region game.

3A BOYS HOOPS

Kayenta Monument Valley outscored Window Rock, 8-5, in the four minute overtime period, en route to a 66-63 victory in 3A North Region action in the Events Center in Fort Defiance last Friday in 3A North Region action.

"We executed, but our shots didn't fall," Window Rock head coach Tom Bizardi said.

The Tuba City Warriors chalked up an impressive 63-48 win over Window Rock in an important 3A North Region contest in the Warrior Pavillion in Tuba City this past Saturday.

In a 3A North Region game this past Sarturday, the Page Sand Devils beat the Ganado Hornets, 77-45.

Page, (24-2), finished with a 9-1 3A North Region record. Chinle Wildcats, (18-10), completed its region play at 6-4. Kayenta Monument Valley, (12-13), and Tuba City, (13-11), finished 5-5 in region action.

Window Rock, (14-13), finished 4-6 in region action. Ganado, (4-21) completed its region slate 1-9.

The Wildcat Den in Chinle is the site for this year's 3A North Regional Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The regional tournament bracket will be released this Tuesday.
