3A NORTH REGIONAL GIRLS, BOYS TOURNAMENT

The 3A North Regional girls and boys basketball tournament began on Thursday with four games, two girls and a pair of boys' games in the Wildcat Den in Chinle.

The regional tournament continues today with four semifinal games on tap. The regional tournament girls and boys championship contests are scheduled for Saturday. Girls and boys third/fourth place games are set for Saturday.

GIRLS

No. 3 Tuba City Lady Warriors ousted No. 6 Kayenta Monument Valley Lady Mustangs, 65-46, in the opening round. Tuba City meets No. 2 Ganado Lady Hornets today at 3 p.m. in a semifinal game.

No. 4 Chinle Lady Wildcats eliminated No. 5 Window Rock Lady Scouts, 49-36, in the first round. Chinle faces No. 1 Page Lady Sand Devils in a semifinal contest at 6 p.m.

The semifinal winners advance to the regional tournament championship contest at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The semifinal losers meet for third/fourth place at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

BOYS

No. 3 Kayenta Monument Valley Mustangs posted a 79-63 victory over No. 6 Ganado Hornets in a first round game on Thursday. Kayenta Monument Valley takes on No. 2 Chinle Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. today in a Final Four game. The Kayenta MOnument Valley/Chinle game marks the reunion of Mustangs' head coach Richard Beverly and Chinle head coach Raul Mendoza. Beverly served as Mendoza's assistant coach last year in Chinle.

The Tuba City/Window Rock boys' contest wasn't sweet for the Warriors. Window Rock knocked off Tuba City, 64-62, in a first round game. Earlier this season Tuba City beat Window Rock three times. The Scouts advance into the semifinals, facing No. 1 Page Sand Devils tonight at 7.

The semifinal winners meet for the regional tournament championship at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The losers play for third/fouth place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
