Horizon Honors started its journey against American Leadership Academy Gilbert North Thursday but a 15-2 loss tested the Eagles resolve.

“Coming in I felt confident,'' said caoch Tom Kandler. "I thought we came in well prepared but sometimes with our guys when the going gets tough they haven’t learned yet to rally and combat that toughness.''

Call it a learning experience.

“As much as I hate losing especially by that margin, I’m happy it happened earlier in the season to humble us and make us better players in general,” said senior Quincy Jacobs.

“I think our game is going to elevate in some way, shape, or form in practices and for when we play our next game,” senior Stetler Huth said.

Freshmen Ian Armbruster (third base) and Sam Hackelton (second base) started. Kandler liked what he saw from both. He thought they were not overmatched.

“It was very evident,” Kandler said.

He said Armbruster and Hackelton held their composureand proved they belong on the field.

Horizon Honors next game is on Tuesday against Phoenix Christian.
