Annual Wolf Howl brings top teams to Chandler

A who's who of boys volleyball teams are the 16 teams competing Friday (March 6) and Saturday (March 7) at the annual Wolf Howl Invite at Chandler High and Arizona College Prep (Oakland).

Twelve 6A schools and four 5A schools comprise the field. Every team entered qualified for its conference state tournament. It features the entire 6A quarterfinal field from last year. Defending state champs Chandler (6A) and Campo Verde (5A) are in the mix. Mesa Mtn. View, last year's state runner-up, is the defending tournament champion. having beaten Desert Vista in the finals.

Here are the pools for Friday with matches beginning at 11 a..m. and continuing through late afternoon:

Pool A (Payne Gym Court 1) - Chandler, Boulder Creek, Brophy, Higley. Pool B (Payne Gym Court 2) - Mesa Mtn. View, Perry,  Hamilton, Gilbert. Pool C (Chandler HS Old gym) - Highland, Sandra Day O'Connor, Red Mountain, Millennium. Pool D (Arizona College Prep Oakland) - Desert Vista, Mesa, Corona del Sol, Campo Verde.

Play starts up again on Saturday at 9 a.m. with cross pool play until approximately 2 p.m.. Bracket play kicks in from there with Gold bracket (top 8), Silver bracket (9-12) and bronze bracket (13-16). Final match begins roughly around 5-5:30 p.m.
