This season wasn’t only a lost season for all seniors at Sandra Day O’Connor due to COVID-19, but it was a lost chance at redemption for pitcher Adam Koski.

“It sucks for me because I missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. I worked so hard over the past year to get back and get recruited. I was really looking forward to making the most of this season,” Kowski said.

The O’Connor Eagles found out about the cancellation of the season Monday.

“We knew that the season was coming to an end, but we had hoped it would’ve gotten better by now. I don’t think I will ever get this final year back,” said senior pitcher Levi Meyer said.

Added senior Greg Bozinovich: “Once we saw this come to fruition, we were all shocked. We really thought this was a year we could make a deep run. The underclassmen are doing okay, but the seniors are devastated, as they should be.”

Although the seniors of O’Connor are upset, they understand that health comes before sports.

“With almost 400 cases in Arizona, I don’t know if they should bring it back, and I’m happy I’m not in that position to do so. We have to look out for people other than just ourselves. I want everyone safe,” said Meyer.

The Eagles have kept in close contact and have held unofficial workouts together while obeying the CDC guidelines of 10 people and under.

However, they are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for their high school baseball careers.

“For now, I’m moving on with my life, and if God provides a way for me to play again in college then I’ll welcome it, but I’m moving off to college with hopes of starting my life, career, and getting a degree,” Mayer said.
