Skyline, Seton Catholic make boys hoops hires

Skyline High announced its next basketball coach on Friday, filling the position with Mitch Armour for the 2020-2021 season pending school board approval next week.

Armour comes to Skyline from the Scottsdale district - Coronado High - where he piloted the 3A Dons the last three seasons. His record over that time is 37-38, including a playoff berth in last year's 17-9 season. Coronado lost in the first round to Fountain Hills.

Coronado's record this past season equaled the best the school has posted in the last decade. That success earned him 3A Metro East Region Coach of the Year Honors. Prior to coming to Arizona, Armour coached in Nebraska for a decade.

Skyline said Armour is dedicated to creating a strong, positive basketball community built on commitment and determination. Armour takes over for James Capriotti, who resigned in late March after five seasons as Coyotes' head coach.

Raymond Patche II, Desert Vista girls basketball coach the past three seasons, is Seton Catholic's choice as its new boys hoops coach, the school announced Friday.

Patche II served a year as an intern coach at ASU under Charli Turner Thorne. After his time at ASU he spent a year as an assistant at Desert Mountain and the past three years as head coach at Desert Vista. Desert Vista was 42-41 in his three seasons. The 2019-2020 season was the best as the Thunder finished 17-10. They qualified for state the past two years losing in the first round each year and qualified for a play-in game in 2017-18.

Seton assistant athletic director Gregg Buchanan said Patche II is excited to bring his energy, passion and intensity for basketball to Seton and to continue to grow himself and the Sentinels' program. Patche II succeeds Commander King as  boys basketball coach.
