Prior to her signing, Chappell admitted she didn't know much about the university.

"Just that they (Park University) was a new school and they were looking for girls to play," Chappell said.

Longtime Holbrook head coach Greg Perkins said Chappell was a very unique for the Roadrunners.

"She (Madison) played all five positions in her four years," Perkins said. "She was an exceptional defensive player, a team leader and model for younger players. She will be missed. This (Holbrook) program has a big position to fill. I wish her nothing but the best at Park."

Perkins added, "In addition, as good of player as she was, she is an even better person."

Chappell said she likes the location of Park.

"I liked how Park is close to home and that I know that area of Gilbert well," Chappell said.

Chappell said before she selected Park to continue her education and play basketball, SAGU-American Indian University and Central Arizona College were interested in her.

"Park University is a four-year college program," Chappell said. "They (Park) is improving very well," Chappell said. "They take basketball very seriously."

Park completed the season 13-15 last year. Chappell said she plans to improve her basketball skills and earn a good education.

In addition to earning 3A East Player of the Year, Chappell was selected the region's Defensive Player of the Year during her junior year.

During her senior year, Chappell was voted the state's 3A Conference Player of the Year.
