Northwest Christian continues to dominate

October 18, 2020 by Alfred Sanchez, Arizona State University

NorthWest Christian huddle for a post-game prayer.

Let's get straight to the point: Northwest Christian annihilated Moon Valley, 58-6.

The night just seemed like it was going the Crusaders' way before the game even started. With a purple fog surrounding the field, the football fell off the tee as Moon Valley was ready to start the game with a kickoff.

Northwest Christian scored on each of their first four possessions while also two forcing two turnovers, which led to a field goal and a touchdown, respectively. The Crusaders quickly went up 24-0 and the first quarter wasn’t even over yet.

After scoring on their fourth possession, Northwest Christian forced another turnover. When the Crusaders kicked the ball off, Moon Valley tried to trick Northwest Christian by doing a backward lateral, but a fumble resulting in a Crusader recovery. Moon Valley's third first-quarter turnover soon led to Northwest Christian's fouth touchdown of the opening frame and as the teams switched directions, Northwest Christian held a 31-0 lead.

Nothing was going right for the Moon Valley Rockets. For instance, the Moon Valley receiver had an open field on his way to a touchdown and stepped out of bounds.

By halftime the score was 44-0. The Rockets did not score until late in the fourth quarter. All they scored was the touchdown, there was no two-point conversion or an extra point scored.

After having their game canceled last week, the Crusaders had not played a game in two weeks, so they were well rested and focused coming into Friday night's game.

“We haven’t played in two weeks, so we started a little slow,” said coach David Inness, despite leading  31-0 at the end of the first quarter and scoring on their first possession of the game.

“It's been a little bit since we played," said wide receiver Brenden Bogaard, "but I felt like once we got started we had a lot of energy."

After having two touchdowns, Bogaard did not get caught up in the statistics, and praised his teammates and coaches for the effort they put into tonight's game.

“It's all about the team,” said Bogaard.

Although the Crusaders played a great game, coach Inness and his team are ready for next week's game against Estrella Foothills.

“Tomorrow morning we will sit down and look at the film and try to get better for next week," said Coach Inness. "We’re excited."
