National Tight End Day to focus on 43 Key Seconds to end distracted driving coming this Friday

October 19, 2020 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365

This Friday (Oct. 23) Tight Ends from across the country will take park in the ‘43 Key Seconds” campaign in an attempt to bring awareness to distracted driving. Former Auburn TE Philip Lutzenkirchen was killed in 2014 in accident due to impaired driving before he had a chance to star in the NFL.

The 43 Key Seconds Pledge will be part of the National Tight End Day Project scheduled for this Friday leading up to Friday Night Light across the country. Distracted driving is the leading cause of death for young people ages 16 to 18 years old.

TAKE 43 SECONDS

1: Ensure you have a clear head - one that is not affected by alcohol, drugs, emotions or fatigue.

2: Have clear hands - send a text, adjust the radio and put all devices away so you can drive hands-free.

3: Set your sights on the road ahead. Do not look to the side at a passenger or down at a text.

4: Finally, click your seatbelt. It’s the law and could save your life!

PLEDGE

“I pledge to not take part in distracted driving. I pledge to stop and prioritize safety before I start my car. I pledge to not allow devices, emotions, fatigue, drugs or alcohol to endanger my life or the lives of others on the road. I pledge to be a positive ambassador for safe driving. I pledge to encourage my friends, family and community to practice safe driving and to not allow them to drive distracted. Before getting into a car, I pledge to take 43 key seconds to ensure both myself and all others in the vehicle complete the checklist to safe driving.”
