Gilbert-Hamilton boys, Corona-Desert Vista girls in finals

Corona del Sol will get a quick rematch with Desert Vista in girls soccer on Friday after both schools claimed 1-0 semifinal wins Thursday night over Gilbert High and Highland, respectively, at the 2011 Tempe Diablos Soccer Tournament at Tempe Sports Complex.

Corona del Sol (3-1-2) picked up its victory by scoring with about 10 minutes left in the second half.  Maddie Caldwell tallied with an assist by Kate Halligan for the game winner. Corona keeper Lexi Bounds picked up her second shutout. Desert Vista, which beat Corona del Sol last week in a power-point match 1-0, outlasted Highland 1-0 thanks to a goal by Rachel Ressler to improve to 7-0 on the season. The Corona-Desert Vista title match is Friday at 6 p.m. at Tempe Sports Complex.

The boys final pits Gilbert against Hamilton. Gilbert got goals from Nathan Rice in the first half and Kahlin Gonzalez and Charlie Dukes in the second half to beat Chandler, 3-0. Gilbert improved to 7-0. Hamilton advanced by knocking off Corona del Sol, 3-1. Jordan Fletcher scored twice for Hamilton (6-0), Danny Arrubla added a goal and two assists and Luis Manta one assist.  Gilbert and Hamilton meet Friday night at 6 for the title at Tempe Sports Complex.
