Gilbert Christian senior Kylie Dickinson has been ready to get back on the court for her final year. She has a feeling this year is going to be good one.

Dickinson has been playing volleyball for about eight years now and has loved every moment of it. She is not sure of what will come to her in the near future with all that typical college mayhem; but she sure hopes it leads her somewhere great.

As captain of the varsity team here at Gilbert Christian, Dickinson is ready to fight the battle and, hopefully, make it to this years playoffs. She believes that this year will bring something good for the girls.

The girls on the team are all doing well with each other so far, which is definitely a positive step leading to a better year than the last. “The team gets along with one another better than previous years so that will become useful for us throughout the season,” Dickinson said.

Being captain doesn’t only matter when in a game or in practice but also every other moment. Dickinson hopes to bring the team together as a family in and out of the court. This will not only grow the girls' relationship with one another but, more importantly, improve their communication skills while playing.

Communication is one of the most important skills one can learn while working with others. It makes every little aspect of the task easier for all participants if everyone can simply communicate with one another whether it is through signals, strategies, or words.

“Having a positive look on things, even if they don’t go our way is also a very important thing to learn how to do,” she said.

Dickinson wants all players, including coaches, to stay positive especially after they’ve had a rough game. It will bring the sense of determination and focus to battle through the next game whether the opponents are weaker or stronger.

Although this is her last year playing for Gilbert Christian High School, Kylie Dickinson will treasure both the time she had with such an amazing team; and the opportunity she had to show off the talent that God gave her.
