SLAC School Spirit Video Competition returning for 2020-21

How is your school thriving and supporting each other through COVID-19?

The AIA's Student Leadership Advisory Committee wants to know. Following up on last year's successful school spirit video campaign, SLAC wants to know how schools are thriving this year despite all the challenges they may face.

Requirements for entry

  1. One submission of a video of a ​maximum three (3) minutes length​ can be submitted only by the school administration -- not the students -- between ​March 8-19, 2021​.
  2. The video must be submitted to ​slac@aiaonline.org​ via Google Drive, DropBox or Youtube link along with the ​school's name, name of submitter, the submitter’s role at the school and the conference​ of the school (ex. 4A Conference).
  3. The video must feature ​two or more sports or activities* MINIMUM​. Sports can be individual or team.
  4. The featured sports must include at least one male sport and one female sport. (Exception for single gender schools – must still include a minimum of two sports or activities).
  5. One student must be featured at least once in the video, in an interview format, speaking about the message the school wishes to convey with respect to school spirit, the unique nature of the school, and sportsmanship.

Authenticity of Spoken Message

How is your school getting through these hard times? What makes yours the strongest community? How are you spreading hope and positivity throughout your school?

Clarity of the School’s Message

The consistency of the spoken message that is featured throughout the video. The message should be fluid and avoid any choppiness or discontinuities.

Participation of Students Featured in Video

Students must be following CDC, AIA and school board health and safety guidelines. Quality of students participating over quantity.

Creativity (NOT PRODUCTION VALUE)

What is your school doing to “thrive” in these hard times? What sets your school and community apart?

Extra Points

These points are not guaranteed and are based on the discretion of SLAC. They can be earned if the video demonstrates, in a tasteful manner, how some of the following examples contribute to school spirit and the students.

  1. Student life among COVID (in-person and/or at-home)
  2. Academics
  3. Activities
  4. Community involvement (among COVID)
  5. Other

Scoring Guidelines

  1. The members of SLAC will use a ranking system for each category from 1 to 5. These scores will be collected and averaged.
  2. Extra points will be decided by a majority vote of SLAC members.
  3. The school with most points from each conference (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A) will be the winner of their conference. The 1A-3A conference winners will be placed into the small school division, and the 4A-6A conference winners will be placed into the large school division.
  4. Videos of each of the winning schools will be made available on the AZPreps365 Live Mobile App for the small and large school divisions for purposes of fans to vote for the overall winners from each division.

Award

The winning small and large school will receive a $1,500 credit to Eastbay to be used by the school for product from Eastbay, of which the athletic director would be the one to place the order with the company.
