Julia Moore is a journalism student at Gilbert Christian High School assigned to cover high school sports for AZPREPS.com

Ella Neilson is a sophomore at Gilbert Christian High School and is a member on the Varsity Dance Team. Before coming to Gilbert Christian, Ella was a competitive gymnast and when starting high school she decided to join the cheer team. Ella was also on the competition team her freshman year. I was able to sit and meet with Ella and ask her about how her season as a dancer went.

How has COVID-19 made this season different for you compared to last year?

“COVID-19 has made this year different because we couldn’t stunt or tumble at games and sadly competitions were canceled. Honestly, it felt like it challenged out team greatly.”

If you could describe this season in one word what would it be?

“The word I would use to describe the season is positivity, because through all of the situations the only thing we could do is stay positive.”

How long have you been a part of Spiritline?

“I have been a part of Spirtline for two years.”

Do you see yourself being a part of Spiritline all throughout high school?

“Yes, definitely.”

What are some goals you have for yourself as a Spiritline member?

“Some goals I have set for myself are to advance in tumbling and jumps.”

Even though Ella’s second season started out being a cheer season and then switched to a dance team, Ella has remained positive throughout all the changes given to the team this season and has been a great leader and encouragement to her teammates.
