Nate Dickinson from Gilbert Christian High School, a freshman on the varsity soccer team, has a lot to say about this season. Keep reading if you want to find out what it's like to be the youngest varsity player in the time of COVID-19.

How is being a freshman on the varsity soccer team different?

Nate says, “It’s honestly not as weird as one would think. My teammates are supportive and helpful, we all have the same goal no matter what grade you're in.”

How is COVID-19 affecting your freshman season?

Nate says, “The first half of the season was difficult because the AIA was strict with masks and there were no fans able to cheer us on; but, now, it’s getting a little better every game. Fans can come support us again and the mask rule is starting to get better.”

How do you achieve your goals?

“Our team focuses on working hard and playing hard. The only way we are gonna make it to play-offs is if every single player gives it their all. We are a team, after all, if one person is slacking the whole play is off. It doesn’t matter if you're a freshman or a senior. Coach and my teammates expect me to show up and play hard.”

Do you believe the soccer team will make it to state this year and why?

“I do. I think this is the first year we are all able to depend on each other. We trust each other to get the job done. Trust is one of the most important things a team can have.” Nate says.

Currently, the varsity team is ranked 13 out of 44 teams in the region! A great start to the season; hopefully, they will keep climbing the ladder with every game. They are determined to see the season through despite COVID-19.

Nate and the team have worked hard to make it to play-offs and will not give up till they make it to state. Nate Dickinson and the soccer team score goals while working together to achieve their goals.
