On Friday, April 16th, the Chandler Prep Titans hosted the Sequoia Pathway Pumas and secured a decisive victory with a final score of 25-0. The game was mercy ruled after three-and-a-half innings of play.

Although the Pumas were fairly sound defensively, the Titans were patient at the plate, took walks, and connected with the ball for hard, long outfield drives including two in-the-park homeruns (seniors Nolan Bailey and Joey Pupillo). The infielders for Sequoia Pathway did the heavy lifting on defense, catching pop ups and making unassisted outs at the bases.

For the Titans, senior pitcher Daniel Peake pitched a shutout and kept the ball from being put in play during his four innings of work.

Chandler Prep was able to play more of their bench in the second and third innings. Getting to take the field on Varsity for the Titans were juniors Zach Romesburg, Tyler Severa, Sam Davis, Josh VanOrdt, and Grant Peake, sophomore Keegan Kerdmann, and freshmen Owen Anderson and Dylan Hathaway.

Head Coach for the Titans, Martin Vilaboy, spoke about what is next for Chandler Prep baseball after a week with a tough loss and this win:

“We had a tough loss yesterday (4/15) against Miami, who’s number one right now, and I think we saw from them what we need to do to get better. We need to get to a position where, when we come back in three weeks, we’re ready to play a team like Miami and possibly beat them.”

The Titans play their next game away against the Gilbert Classical Spartans on April 20th at 3:45pm. Titan Up.
