The Knights played the Falcons in the first round of the 3A High School Baseball Playoffs on Saturday, May 8th, at Gilbert Christian’s home field, Titan Ball Park. Despite the Knights’ hopes of a win, the Falcons proved to be a very worthy opponent.

Senior Hunter Lang of the Knights started the pitching line-up and the Falcons scored one run in the first inning. The Knights came back quickly on a RBI single by Senior Luke Webb plating Junior Matt Hershey. Blake Dolan then scored on a SAC fly driven by Senior Nick Wojnarowski. The score at the end of the first inning was Knights 2, Falcons 1.

After a three-run homer hit by Senior Shane Davenport of the Falcons, in the second inning, Nick Wojnarowski entered the game relieving Hunter Lang at the start of the third inning. The only scoring by the Falcons during this inning was an RBI SAC fly by Senior, Hunter McAloon of the Falcons.

With another RBI for the Knights, Luke Webb scored on a hit by Hunter Lang putting the score Falcons 5, Knights 3 at the end of the third inning.

However, today was all about the Falcons hitting power despite some outstanding defensive plays like Matt Hershey, at shortstop, who threw out a runner at first in the fifth inning. The hitting power of the Falcons was difficult for the Knights to overcome for the balance of the game.

Hunter McAloon started the sixth inning with a solo homerun and Shane Davenport came through with another two-run homer in the same inning. Sophomore Jordon King of the Knights entered the game at the start of the seventh inning relieving Wojnarowski. While he kept the Falcons from scoring any further, the Knights just could not recover from the Falcons onslaught of hitting with the final score,  Falcons 10 - Knights 3.

The Knights had a good run this year. They were 5 – 3 in their Region with a #2 Standing, 11- 4 in their conference, ranked #6, and had an overall record of 14 -5. We are proud of these men and all they accomplished. All honor and glory goes to God. The team, after last year’s pandemic, is very grateful they had the opportunity to play the game they love so much for a full season. Go Knights!

We wish the Fountain Hills Falcons much success in the next round of the playoffs!
