The Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles picked up their second win of the season on Friday night, winning 48-6 over the Heritage Academy Laveen Heroes.

The visiting Eagles relied primarily on their run game, scoring six of the seven touchdowns on the ground.

Eagles head coach Nate Holtz said about the run game, “We want to be able to run the ball when we can, if we can establish a run game and run like that, we’re going to run it.”

The rushing attack was led by senior running back Boden Davidson, who had three touchdowns, and senior quarterback Carson Mousel, who added a touchdown of his own.

The scoring started early for the Eagles when Mousel ran it in on their first offensive drive making it 7-0 five minutes into the first quarter.

The Eagles would not look back, scoring four more unanswered rushing touchdowns — including Davidson’s three and another from junior running back Kevin Joyce to make it 34-0.

The Heroes would go on to score a rushing touchdown of their own to make it 34-6 with 5:22 remaining in the third quarter.

The Eagles offensive attack would answer back with two more touchdowns, including a rushing touchdown from freshman Ethan Davidson and the lone passing touchdown of the night, when Mousel connected with sophomore wide receiver Seth McClue in the early stages of the fourth quarter to make it 48-6.

When asked about what made their rushing attack so efficient tonight, Davidson gave the credit to his linemen and his quarterback being able to read the defense.

The Eagles defense was dominant as well, recording multiple sacks and three interceptions as well as only allowing only one score from the Heroes. The interceptions were forced by defensive backs Steven Becker, Ethan Davidson and Jaden Dufek.

When asked about what led to such a dominant defensive display sophomore defensive linemen Grant Montgomery said, “It was the energy we had. We were out there flying around, trying to have fun. We played our hearts out.”

With this win, the Eagles (2-1) have won two straight with a combined score of 96-13. When asked about what has led to this dominance over the last two games, Holtz said, “More than anything, it’s just coming out and doing what we are supposed to do. Nothing special, just executing our game plans offensively and defensively, I think, is the biggest factor.”

The Eagles' next game is against the San Tan Charter Roadrunners (1-2) on Sept. 18.
