GILBERT–– Dueling fight songs emanating from both the Hamilton and Perry student sections engulfed Perry High School gymnasium on Wednesday evening. But it was the visiting Huskies who prevailed in this East Valley matchup between two of the top three-ranked 6A progams in the state.

The No. 3 Huskies overpowered the No. 2 Pumas in all three sets : 25-20, 25,-21, 25-15. While the first two sets were tightly contested, the host squad from Perry appeared exhausted during the  third and final set. The effort in dives and blocks that was so apparent in the opening two sets seemed to be lacking. Following the match, Perry coach Fred Mann had a swift pep talk with his varsity squad.

Reese Biesemeyer, a sophomore, commanded the court blocking passes from Hamilton. Optimistic for what’s to come, “Personally, I feel like we always have a good attitude," said Perry sophomore Reese Biesemeyer, who commanded Hamilton's attention throughout the match with her keen blocks. Biesemeyer mentioned how the team prepares for their athletic performances: a dance party. Prior to every match, the team assembles. Music blares as they unleash their enthusiasm, a great bonding experience amongst the girls.

Before the match, the Puma girls all exchanged high-fives and hugs. During the national anthem, the teammates stood in a line, all locked hands that were strung across each other's hearts diagonally. This was a touching display of the secured bond amongst the girls. "No matter what, we're a team," said Biesemeyer. "Win or lose."

Although this match-up against the Huskies did not go their way, the team is of good cheer with their upcoming matchup against Chandler High School. "We're going to come back with more fire," said Biesemeyer.
