Mountain View volleyball kept a couple streaks alive on Thursday night. The Toros took to the road for a region match against Red Mountain and won their fourth consecutive power-ranking match and their ninth in a row over the Mountain Lions dating back four years ago. All nine have been sweeps. Final set scores Thursday -- 25-23, 25-21 and 25-13.

Mountain View's attack was led per usual by seniors Olivia Tufuafu and Reece Fischbeck. Unofficial kill totals for the pair -- Tukuafu (16) and Fischbeck (13). Mountain View improved to 5-4 overall in power-ranking matches and is on top at 4-0 in the 6A East Valley Region. Red Mountain is 9-2 prm and 3-1 in the 6A East Valley.

The first two sets were close. The initial set saw 17 ties and the largest lead was three - a couple times by Mountain View. The final tie was 22-22. The Toros final two points to clinch the set came via kills by  Aubrey Parris and Fischbeck. The Toros led several times the latter half of the set by seven and their lead was pared to three twice late. A Fischbeck kill finished the second set for a 2-0 lead.

As the third-set final indicates, it was all Mountain View. Tukuafu and Fischbeck totaled five kills each in the set. Top attack leaders for Red Mountain were Madi Wagner (11) and Olivia Seutter (10).

Mountain View coach Clark Fleming praised the play of Tukuafu and Fischbeck, but didn't leave out his other players.

'We have two top hitters," Fleming said. "Our other players play their position. It's a team sport and takes all six. It was a good night."

Both schools take time off for fall break. Red Mountain resumes play Oct. 11 at home vs. Skyline. Mountain View also is back Oct. 11 for a road match at Westwood.
