Notable division appeals schools filed

The Arizona Interscholastic Association released the list of schools that filed placements appeals for their teams.

You can find the list here. The AIA’s Sports Advisory Committee has until Nov. 14 to either deny or accept the appeals during meetings that are open to the public.

If an appeal is denied, schools can appeal the denial to the AIA’s executive board. The appeal must be made to Brian Bolitho (bbolitho@aiaonline.org) by Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.

Among the notable appeals the AIA received this week:

St. Mary’s football, a Division IV program that always petitions to play in Division I, appealed to move into Division II for the first time.

Phoenix Carl Hayden football from D-I to D-III.

Phoenix Central football from D-I to D-III.

Phoenix Cesar Chavez football from D-I to D-II.

Phoenix Alhambra football from D-I to D-III.

Phoenix Christian football from D-V to D-III.

Phoenix South Mountain football from D-II to D-III.

Gilbert Mesquite’s basketball programs from D-I to D-II.

Cottonwood Mingus football from D-III to D-IV.

Phoenix Horizon football from D-I to D-II.

Tempe McClintock football from D-II to D-III.
