Class 4A basketball teams return to action on Friday

State-tournament play resumes with quarterfinals on Friday night (Feb. 18) for boys and girls basketball teams in Class 4A divisions I and II.
In Class 4A Division II boys, the top four seeds survived and will host games at 7 p.m.
No. 1 Tucson Amphitheater is at home against No. 9 Tucson Palo Verde. No. 2 Phoenix Arcadia faces visiting No. 7 Tempe. No. 3 Phoenix Thunderbird hosts No. 6 Phoenix Paradise Valley. And No. 4 Tucson Catalina hosts No. 5 Goodyear Desert Edge.
In 4A-I boys, a couple of lower seeds pulled first-round surprises to advance.
No. 13 Glendale Independence downed No. 4 Glendale Apollo and will travel to face No. 5 Nogales. No. 11 Tucson Sabino stopped No. 6 Avondale Agua Fria and will travel to face No. 3 Scottsdale Saguaro.
The other two games are No. 8 Phoenix Sunnyslope at No. 1 Glendale Raymond S. Kellis and No. 7 Tempe McClintock at No. 2 Peoria.
The top four seeds in 4A-II girls also advanced.
No. 1 Flagstaff will host No. 8 Buckeye. No. 2 Chandler Seton Catholic, the defending champion, will host No. 10 Phoenix Arcadia. No. 3 Glendale Cactus will host No. 6 Tucson Palo Verde. And No. 4 Page will host No. 5 Phoenix Thunderbird.
And the top four seeds in 4A-I moved on.
No. 1 Phoenix Shadow Mountain will host No. 8 Peoria. No. 2 Glendale Apollo will host No. 7 Marana. No. 3 Tucson Catalina Foothills will host No. 6 Prescott. And No. 4 Vail Cienega will host No. 5 El Mirage Dysart.
Semifinals for 4A-II boys and girls will be Wednesday at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, with 4A-I semifinals on Thursday at the same location.
