It was too much Metehan Akcam and a little more Theo Turner than Gilbert Christian could handle.

Akcam and Turner combined for 48 points as Orme won the first basketball title in its history Saturday with a 68-56 victory over Gilbert Christian at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

Orme (21-0) had been a runner-up three times, but never a champion until Saturday afternoon. The Warriors finished second in 1A in 1995, 1999 and 2006. Gilbert Christian (25-4), which trailed most of the game, finished the season 25-4. They had to endure a change of head coach at mid-season yet still managed to get in position for a state title repeat.

Akcam, who is from Turkey and one of four players on Orme's squad from other countries, scored 15 of his 27 points in the first half. He sank three 3s and hit buzzer-beaters to end the second and third quarters that slightly improve Orme's quarter lead each time.

Turner scored 21 points -- 13 in the first half. He also sank three 3s as the first half boiled down in large part to a 3-point shooting contest. Orme made 7 3s in the first half and Gilbert Christian four as both teams secured good looks from long range.

Orme made just two 3s in the second half, but wasn't looking for many of those opportunities. Instead the Warriors wanted to pound the ball inside to Michel Nzege. The 6-foot-8 Nzege scored five of his seven points in that quarter.

Gilbert Christian opened the final period trailing 47-43, but didn't have a run in its arsenal for Orme. Akcam and Turner each hit a 3 in the final period and the Warriors made 13-of-17 free-throws in the final quarter.

Brandon Palacio led Gilbert Christian with 14 points and Sam Jones added 12.
