September 27, 2016 by Andy Morales, AZPreps365

Tombstone head coach Mike Hayhurst has his Yellow Jackets rolling again. The program hasn’t had a winning record since 2007 (7-3) and finished 2-8 two years ago, one year before Hayhurst was rehired.

Hayhurst coached at Tombstone for 14 years and stepped away after 2011 but he is back after a three-year break. He has 247 wins with the Yellow Jackets and he is looking to make it 248 when the team travels to Eloy to take on Santa Cruz Friday night.

Tombstone is 4-1 and ranked No. 11 in the current AIA/MaxPreps formula for the 2A Conference while Santa Cruz is 4-0 and ranked No. 3.

Richard Davis is in his third year with the Dust Devils and he has compiled a 16-9 record including a 9-3 mark last year. The Dust Devils have not had back-to-back winning seasons since 1990-91.

Tombstone is led by senior QB David Montoya, running back Ralph Walters and Tyler Wilrdige who is explosive as a running back and a receiver.

Senior QB Emilio Cosillos leads Santa Cruz. Devin Neal is one of the primary weapons on the ground and receiving.
