HOOPS: Preseason Tourneys are underway

The Small School Boyd Baker Tournament, the Lancer Tip Off Classic and the Turkey Shootout got underway Monday with the Boyd Baker taking place at Immaculate Heart and The Gregory School while the Lancer Classic is being played at Salpointe and Central. Walden Grove is hosting the Girls Turkey Shootout.

Scores from the Turkey Shootout include, Santa Cruz over Santa Rita 51-25, Sabino over Walden Grove 47-31, Casteel 36-23 over St. David, Ironwood Ridge 42-22 over Cholla, Ironwood Ridge 65-15 over Santa Cruz and Walden Grove 28-22 over St. David.

Some results from the Boyd Baker include a 43-20 win by the girls of Tanque Verde over The Gregory School in the first game held at The Gregory School.

There were several injuries on both sides with Tanque Verde going without Kiya Dorroh, Katlynn McAllister and Emma Morris while Gaby Lambert was unavailable for The Gregory School.

Eunice Ineza led The Gregory School with seven points and Chiara Gloesslein scored six. Sydney Renteria led all scorers with 13 points, Ella Berg had 12 and Carly Huber and Taylor Nye had seven each.

The Gregory School boys beat Desert Christian 60-39 in the second game. Addison Mort led the Hawks with 32 points and Sebastian Quintana added seven. Palmer Hoffman had 10 for Desert Christian, Micah Deehan had nine and Samuel baker had eight.

Results from the Lancer Classic include an overtime battle between Cholla and Cienega with the Chargers coming out on top 70-62.

Marcel Dean had 31 points for Cholla, Josh Sutherland had 19 and Myles Gantt added 11. Jordan Green had 16 for Cienega, Isaiah Buster had 13, Javi Somers scored 11 as did Breven Burnett.

Nogales beat Ironwood Ridge 76-47 in the next game at Salpointe.

Sam Leglue scored 18 for Nogales, Alan Contreras had 13, Edgar Condes had 13 and Fabian Maldonado added 11. Kolby Lathrop scored 14 for the Nighthawks and Richard Cochran had 15.

Catalina Foothills beat Pueblo 78-44.

Carson James had 22 points for Catalina Foothills and Hayden Moser had 14. Jack Davis and Jay Cadelinia scored 12 each for the Warriors and Magic Galindo added 10.

Rincon/University beat Salpointe 49-42 in the final game of the night.

Alejandro Hollingsworth scored 11 for Rincon, Japhon Harrison and Tony Brunenkant added 10 each. Majok Deng scored 15 for Salpointe and Ryan Grabosch added 11.
