The Centennial Coyotes pushed their unblemished record to 6-0 Friday night by defeating the  Apollo Hawks, 45-6, in  the Coyotes' homecoming game.

The Coyotes  have now won seven games against the Hawks in the last seven years.

The Coyotes had a huge return by running back Jaydin Young who returned the opening kickoff 65 yards to the Apollo 20-yard line. Running back Davon Fountain scored on a 5-yard run to make the score 6-0 with less than a minute gone.

It was a great night for Young on offense and on defense. As a safety he also had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown, making the score 28-0 with 1:54 left in the second quarter.

“It felt great. I want to give a shout out to my D-line,” Young said. “Putting pressure and forcing the quarterback to throw the ball and fortunately I was able to come up with the pick and return it for a touchdown.”

Hawks running back, Ali Mohamed scored Apollo’s only touchdown, scoring on a one-yard run with 7:12 left in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks had a total of 154 yards rushing, with Mohamed accountin for 34 yards.

Hawks senior quarterback Frank Sanchez threw for 27 yards,  completing five of 11 attempts with one interception.

Although the Coyotes dominated, they had 19 penalties for 270 yards according to Centennial high school stats. As for Apollo, they had 10 penalties adding up 123 yards.

“I’m sure the coaches will take those penalties, run inside drills,” said offensive coordinator Ian Comes. “Every drill we do, we are going to work on not going offsides and not holding. We will put that in practice.”

It was all about the running game as the Coyotes had 370 rushing yards, according to Centennial high school stats.  Running back Marc Jacob, had an 80-yard carry for a touchdown, making it 44-6 with 6:56 left in the game.

Jonathan Morris threw for 29 yards completing eight of 13 attempts.

Centennial plays next Friday atSunnyslope. Last year the Coyotes defeated Sunnyslope, 28-2.
