101. That’s how many matches the Catalina Foothills boys tennis team has won in a row. The streak includes five state championships under two different coaches. A semifinal playoff loss to Ironwood Ridge in the spring of 2013 was the last blemish on the Falcon record and it came six wins after a regular season loss to Salpointe. Since then?

The Falcons have beaten Salpointe 10 times in a row since March of 2013, including the state finals in 2014, 2015 and 2018, and Ironwood Ridge has come up short seven times in a row, only scoring three points along the way.

Catalina Foothills is now 12-0 on the year and ranked No. 2 in Division II behind Notre Dame Prep (13-0) with one match left in the regular season before the team playoffs start on Wednesday, April 24. State singles and doubles competition is slated to start that Friday, April 26.

Catalina Foothills won D-II, Section VII and, also from Southern Arizona, No. 8 Rincon/University boys won the D-I, Tucson Section and No. 9 Nogales (10-2) won D-II, Section VIII. The No. 3 Pusch Ridge boys (10-0) won D-III, Section II and the No. 2 Gregory School boys won D-III, Section III.

Pusch Ridge hosts Catalina Foothills on Monday.

On the girl’s side, No. 5 Rincon/University (12-1) won the D-I, Tucson Section, No. 2 Catalina Foothills (12-1) won the D-II, Section VII title, No. 7 Nogales (10-2) won the D-II, Section VIII title, No. 3 Pusch Ridge (10-2) won the D-III, Section II championship and No. 12 Gregory School (11-1) won the D-III, Section III championship.

The top team in each section earns an automatic berth to the state playoffs.
