Valley Christian coach Kirk Sundberg said earlier in the week to look out for his team's athleticism and versatility. Both were on display in the Trojans 49-13 win against Arizona Lutheran Academy Friday.

As a 3A school, the Trojans have a small roster which necessitates players to play offense and defense.

But Sunberg believes it adds to the high school football experience. “It's quintessential high school football guys that have a really varied skill set, like our starting running back and defensive back who also place kicks,” said Sunberg.

That's versatility personified in Tony Gomez, Jr.

The Trojans are full of special players like Gomez, who thinks playing on all sides of the ball promotes team chemistry. “The big plays are for the team it's not just a solo thing and working together in multiple sides of the ball helps us connect better,” said Gomez.

The team has completely bought into these ideals because of leaders like senior Vinnie Lagatta, who in the game played quarterback, wide reciever, and defensive back. “We all know our responsibilities and our duties and just have to make sure we hold each other responsibilities” said Lagatta.

Sundberg points to a senior class that leads the team. “Every year high school coaches worry about losing their leaders from the year before, but we got lucky with a real good group of seniors this year,” said Sundberg.

Kaden Majerack is the team's rushing leader and only  plays running back but he still is a multifaceted athlete.  Majerack is a high level club hockey player.

“This is a team that is all in on a championship, whatever we have to do.” said Majerack.

The Trojans are going to need all their versatility to continue their hot start. Valley Christian puts its undefeated record on the line Friday against Page at home.
